Smart Technologies (BD) Ltd. was established in Dhaka in 1998 with a mandate to bring enterprise-grade technology solutions to Bangladesh's growing corporate and institutional market. The founding team comprised experienced technology professionals who had worked with international vendors and understood both global best practices and the unique requirements of the Bangladesh operating environment.

The company's early focus was on networking and IT infrastructure — providing the foundational technology that Bangladesh's rapidly computerising organisations needed to operate. From its earliest days, the company differentiated itself through genuine technical expertise, authorised supply chains, and a commitment to after-sales support that was rare in the market at the time.

Following a decade of steady capability-building, the company reorganised for accelerated growth — adding new engineering hires, deepening brand relationships, and expanding into security, fire safety, and structured cabling disciplines that would form the foundation for the SSAL practice two decades later.

By this period, Smart Technologies was delivering structured cabling and network infrastructure projects for several Dhaka-based financial institutions and corporate offices. These projects established the company's reputation for engineering quality and reliable project delivery. The team grew steadily, adding certified engineers with specialisations in networking, telecommunications, and IT systems.

Recognising the growing demand from Bangladesh's banking and corporate sectors for professional CCTV and surveillance solutions, Smart Technologies established its security technology practice. The team secured its first authorised brand agreements with major global surveillance manufacturers and delivered its first large-scale CCTV projects for banking clients — including one of Dhaka's leading private commercial banks.

This period coincided with increasing Bangladesh Bank regulatory attention to branch security, creating significant demand from the financial sector for professional CCTV integration services.

The company delivered its first complete fire safety project — an addressable fire alarm system for a multi-storey commercial building in Dhaka — marking the beginning of what would become a major practice area. The team gained FSCD certification knowledge and established its first relationships with leading global fire safety brands.

As Bangladesh's organisations began moving beyond physical locks to electronic access control, Smart Technologies launched its access control practice. The team partnered with ZKTeco and Honeywell to offer biometric and proximity card access solutions. The first major access control project — a 60-door installation for a government ministry building in Dhaka — was delivered this year.

The company reached its 100th completed project — a milestone celebrated by the founding team as validation that their model of technical excellence and client focus was resonating in the Bangladesh market. By this point, the team had grown to include more than twenty engineers and technicians, and the company had secured authorised partner status with a dozen global technology brands.

Smart Technologies managed its first simultaneous multi-city project — a branch network CCTV upgrade for a financial institution with offices in Dhaka, Chittagong, and Sylhet. This project tested and ultimately proved the company's ability to manage complex logistical challenges across multiple geographic locations under a single project management framework.

Following increased scrutiny of Bangladesh's garment sector following international buyer pressure through the Accord and Alliance programmes, Smart Technologies developed deep expertise in RMG factory fire safety and building security. The team delivered fire alarm system upgrades for multiple garment factories in Gazipur and Ashulia, developing the sector knowledge that would become a core practice specialisation.

Responding to client demand for integrated communication and meeting room solutions, the company expanded into professional AV and unified communications. Partnerships with Crestron, Yealink, Poly, and other leading brands enabled the delivery of complete boardroom, conference centre, and IP telephony solutions. The first smart conference room project was delivered for a multinational corporation's Dhaka headquarters.

Despite the unprecedented disruption of the COVID-19 pandemic, the company maintained project delivery, pivoted to remote support and diagnostics where possible, and used the period to invest in team training and certification. New health screening and access control products were added to the portfolio to respond to pandemic-specific requirements.

A formal BMS practice was established with Honeywell and Siemens as anchor technology partners. The first complete BMS project — integrating HVAC, lighting, and access control for a new commercial tower in Dhaka — demonstrated the company's growing capability to deliver complex, multi-discipline integrated systems.

The company reached its 300th completed project and expanded its active project footprint to nine cities across Bangladesh: Dhaka, Chittagong, Sylhet, Rajshahi, Khulna, Comilla, Narayanganj, Gazipur, and Narsingdi. A dedicated regional delivery coordination capability was established to manage projects outside the Dhaka metropolitan area.

Through sustained investment in manufacturer relationships and engineering certification, the company achieved formal authorised partner or integrator status with more than fifty globally recognised technology brands. This milestone confirmed Smart Technologies as one of the most comprehensively partnered technology integrators in Bangladesh.

The company achieved ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System certification — formal external validation of the quality processes and engineering standards that the team had been building for fifteen years. This certification opened new procurement opportunities with multinational corporations and government agencies that require supplier quality certification.

The company delivered its 500th completed project — a major integrated security and automation deployment for a leading Dhaka commercial complex. This milestone was celebrated across the entire team as recognition of fifteen years of consistent delivery, client trust, and technical excellence.

Recognising the opportunity to create a dedicated specialist practice focused entirely on safety, security, and automation technology, the group began preparations for the formal establishment of Smart Safety & Automations Ltd. Engineering teams, brand partnerships, processes, and infrastructure were structured to support the new entity.

Smart Safety & Automations Ltd. was formally established as an independent entity and sister concern of Smart Technologies (BD) Ltd. SSAL launched with immediate capability across sixteen solution categories, fifty-plus brand partnerships, a team of certified engineers, and a track record of project delivery backed by the full heritage of the Smart Technologies group.

The launch of SSAL represented the next chapter in a story that began in 2009 — a story about building a technology company that Bangladesh's most important organisations could trust completely.

Within months of formal establishment, SSAL secured its first independent enterprise contracts — including multi-branch banking surveillance projects, hospital access control deployments, and industrial fire safety upgrades. These early wins confirmed the market's confidence in SSAL's capability and the strength of the relationships that the founding team had built over sixteen years.
