Access Control System

An access control system is a technology framework that governs who can enter a space, at what time, and under what conditions. It replaces physical keys — which are lost, copied, and never audited — with electronic credentials tied to an individual's identity. Every access event is logged with a timestamp, credential ID, and decision outcome, creating an irrefutable audit trail for security investigations, HR disputes, and regulatory examinations.

Bangladesh Bank's ICT Security Guideline v4.0 explicitly requires that server rooms, data centres, and IT infrastructure areas within scheduled banks be protected by electronic access control with biometric authentication. The guideline mandates that access logs be retained and available for audit. Banks that rely on padlocks and sign-in sheets for their IT rooms are already non-compliant — and Bangladesh Bank examination teams actively check for this during on-site inspections.

Beyond banking, access control is transforming workforce management in Bangladesh's garment and manufacturing sector. A factory with 5,000 workers cannot rely on manual attendance sheets or swipe cards that are shared between colleagues. Biometric time-and-attendance integrated with payroll systems eliminates buddy punching, reduces payroll fraud, and gives management accurate occupancy data for fire safety mustering.
