Product Summary
Suppresses Fire in ≤10 Seconds. Leaves No Residue. Safe for Occupied Spaces. NFPA 2001 Compliant.
Water sprinklers and dry powder extinguishers destroy electronic equipment, sensitive documents, and valuable assets when they discharge. FM-200 (chemically known as HFC-227ea) suppresses fires without any residue, without damaging electronic equipment, and without rendering the protected space uninhabitable after discharge — allowing the protected asset (server room, telecom exchange, control room, archive) to be restored to operation within minutes of the fire event rather than days of cleanup.
SSAL designs and installs FM-200 clean agent fire suppression systems as the primary fire protection solution for server rooms, data centres, telecom equipment rooms, bank vaults, control rooms, and document archives — spaces where the secondary damage of conventional suppression media would be as catastrophic as the fire itself.
Key Features
- FM-200 (HFC-227ea) Agent: Heptafluoropropane — a colourless, odourless, electrically non-conductive gas that suppresses fire by absorbing heat from the combustion reaction; no ozone depletion (ODP = 0); approved for use in occupied spaces at design concentrations
- Discharge Time ≤10 Seconds: Full agent discharge completes in under 10 seconds from actuation — fires are suppressed before they reach the heat-release rate that damages sensitive electronic equipment or triggers structural damage
- 7.7–8.0% Design Concentration (Class A): Designed and tested to achieve the minimum extinguishing concentration for Class A surface fires in the protected enclosure — provides the margin above minimum extinguishing concentration (MEC) required by NFPA 2001
- Cylinder Range: 12L to 147L: Six cylinder sizes accommodate system designs from a small server closet (12L) to a large data centre room (multiple 147L cylinders in manifold configuration) — SSAL sizes the system precisely to the protected enclosure volume and design concentration
- 25 Bar Working Pressure: High-pressure agent storage maximises agent density per cylinder volume, minimising the floor-space and structural loading requirements of the suppression cylinder bank
- UL Listed + CE Marked: Dual certification — UL listing meets the US standard accepted by international data centre operators and insurance underwriters; CE marking meets the European standard required by multinational property developers and insurance companies with European parent policies
- NFPA 2001 Compliant: The authoritative US standard for clean agent fire extinguishing systems — accepted as the design standard by Bangladesh's major data centre operators, banks with international correspondent banking relationships, and government facilities under ICT security guidelines
- Electric Actuator (24VDC) + Manual Actuator: Electric actuation allows automatic discharge triggered by the fire detection panel with a selectable time delay for personnel evacuation; manual actuator allows on-scene discharge by authorised personnel; both actuators are fitted as standard
- Safety Pressure Relief Valve: Prevents catastrophic cylinder failure if cylinder temperature exceeds design limits — essential for cylinders in plant rooms that may be exposed to extreme heat during a fire event
- Carbon Steel Cylinder: Seamless carbon steel cylinder construction; hydrostatic test pressure 50 bar (twice working pressure); cylinder service life up to 20 years with periodic hydrostatic inspection per NFPA 2001

Typical Applications
- Server Room & IT Room: The primary application — FM-200 protects servers, storage, network equipment, and UPS systems from fire without any equipment damage from the agent; the protected space is usable within minutes of discharge after ventilation
- Bank Server Room (Bangladesh Bank ICT Guideline v4.0 Compliance): Bangladesh Bank ICT Guideline v4.0 requires clean agent or equivalent suppression for IT rooms; FM-200 meets this requirement and is the most widely accepted agent by bank insurance underwriters in Bangladesh
- Telecom Exchange & Core Network Equipment Room: Bangladesh's telecom operators protect core switching equipment, DSLAM rooms, and backbone router enclosures with FM-200 — equipment continuity is commercially critical
- Data Centre (TIA-942 Compliance): FM-200 meets TIA-942 suppression requirements for Tier I through Tier IV data centres; SSAL designs multi-zone systems with zone-selective discharge for large data hall deployments
- Bank Vault & Document Archive: Paper and valuables are protected without water damage — FM-200 is the preferred agent for irreplaceable document archives and gold/currency vault spaces
- Marine & Offshore Application: FM-200 cylinders in stainless steel are available for shipboard and offshore platform control room protection — relevant for Bangladesh's river navigation and Bay of Bengal offshore sector
Compatibility & Integration
FM-200 suppression systems integrate with addressable fire alarm panels via the suppression control panel (SCP), which manages the abort sequence, pre-discharge alarm, time delay, and discharge signal. SSAL uses Naffco, Kidde, and Fike suppression control panels interfaced with Bosch, Honeywell, and Siemens fire alarm panels. The suppression system provides confirmation of discharge to the fire alarm panel via a flow switch or pressure switch — enabling the panel to display "AGENT DISCHARGED" at the keypad and transmit the event to the monitoring centre.
SSAL Supply & Support
Smart Safety & Automations Ltd. designs FM-200 suppression systems from enclosure integrity assessment (door and cable penetration sealing), agent quantity calculation (NFPA 2001 §5.4), cylinder and nozzle layout, pipe network design, and suppression control panel configuration. SSAL provides complete system documentation including design calculations, piping isometric drawings, hazard analysis, MSDS for FM-200, and the as-built record drawings required for FSCD NOC application.
