Overview

Product Summary

Every Detector. Every Address. Every Status — in Real Time. The Cornerstone of Life-Safety Detection.

The optical smoke detector is the primary fire detection device in the majority of commercial and institutional buildings — responding to the visible smoke produced by smouldering and flaming fires before temperatures rise to levels that trigger heat detectors. The addressable optical detector combines this early detection capability with an individual address on the signalling loop — the fire alarm panel knows precisely which detector has triggered, its current smoke density reading, whether it is in alarm, pre-alarm, or normal state, and whether it is due for service.

SSAL specifies addressable optical smoke detectors as the standard primary detector in all commercial addressable fire alarm system designs, selected from Bosch, Honeywell, and Siemens addressable detector ranges to match the panel protocol at each project.

Key Features

  • Multi-Angle Laser Light-Scattering Chamber: Advanced optical sensing chamber uses a laser source and multiple scattered-light receivers at different angles — detecting both large smoke particle fires (smouldering wood, paper, foam) and small particle fires (fast-flaming synthetic materials) across a broader range than single-angle conventional optical chambers
  • EN 54-7 Certified: Independently tested and certified to the European standard for point-type smoke detectors using scattered/transmitted light — the international benchmark accepted by FSCD, Bangladesh's major insurance companies, and multinational property developers
  • Drift Compensation: On-board algorithm monitors the detector's optical chamber contamination level over time and automatically adjusts the detection threshold to compensate for dust and airborne particle accumulation — maintains EN 54-7 sensitivity performance throughout the maintenance interval without nuisance alarms from gradual soiling
  • Response Time <30 Seconds: From the moment test smoke enters the detector chamber to alarm output transmission to the panel in under 30 seconds — providing occupants with maximum time to respond and evacuate before conditions deteriorate
  • Pre-Alarm Output: Configurable pre-alarm level (below full alarm threshold) provides early warning to the fire control panel — initiating staff investigation before triggering the full building evacuation alarm — reducing unnecessary evacuation events in occupied buildings
  • Individual Address: Each detector occupies a unique address on the addressable loop — addressable panels display the individual detector's name, location, and status at all times, enabling proactive maintenance (remove and clean highest-reading detectors before they false alarm)
  • Detector Health Status Reporting: Continuously reports current smoke density reading, contamination level, and internal temperature to the fire alarm panel — enables predictive maintenance and removes guesswork from maintenance scheduling
  • 60m² Typical Coverage (12m × 12m Spacing): Meets BS 5839-1 and BNBC 2020 spacing requirements for Type L1 fire detection (life protection, all areas) — single-figure coverage calculation simplifies detector quantity take-off for design
  • Operating Temperature −10°C to +60°C: Full specification operation in machine rooms, covered plant areas, and spaces exposed to heat from adjacent processes

Typical Applications

  • Office Building — All Floor Areas: Primary life-safety detection on all occupied floors; addressable addressing provides floor, zone, and room-level alarm location to direct evacuation and fire brigade response
  • Hospital Ward & Patient Areas: Early pre-alarm state enables nurse staff alert before general evacuation alarm — provides time for investigation and prevents unnecessary patient disturbance in wards adjacent to non-fire zones
  • Hotel Guest Rooms & Corridors: Individual room addressing meets NFPA 72 and BS 5839-1 requirements for hotel guest room detection; corridor detectors provide early smoke path detection for evacuation route integrity
  • School & University Classroom Areas: Life-safety detection for all occupied spaces; drift compensation maintains sensitivity through the chalk dust, paper dust, and marker fumes present in educational environments
  • Retail Space — Open-Plan Floor: 60m² coverage at 12m × 12m spacing provides economical detector layout for large open-plan retail floors with high ceilings
  • Data Centre — Raised Floor and Ceiling Void: Combined ceiling-level optical detector and under-floor optical detector provides the dual-level detection recommended by TIA-942 for data centre fire detection — using addressable base with isolator module to protect loop integrity

Compatibility & Integration

Addressable optical smoke detectors are selected to match the signalling loop protocol of the installed addressable fire alarm panel. SSAL supplies detectors from the Bosch D7050 family (FPA-1200 panel), Honeywell Nittan Evolution (Notifier panel), and Siemens FDO221 (Cerberus PRO panel) as the primary validated combinations for Bangladesh deployments. All detectors use the twist-lock base system — short-circuit isolator bases are specified in high-risk areas (cable duct crossings, floor penetrations) to prevent a cable fault from disabling multiple loop devices.

SSAL Supply & Support

Smart Safety & Automations Ltd. designs optical smoke detector layouts in compliance with BS 5839-1, NFPA 72, and BNBC 2020 Part 4 requirements — providing detector positioning drawings for every floor of the protected building. SSAL selects appropriate detector sensitivity settings and pre-alarm thresholds during commissioning to optimise performance for each space type. Annual Maintenance Contracts include individual detector sensitivity testing, contamination level review, and selective replacement of detectors approaching end of their clean-chamber service life.
