Overview

Product Summary

48 Fibers. 1U. Factory-Loaded. ≤0.2dB per Connection. Ready for 40GbE and 100GbE.

The fiber patch panel is the organised termination and cross-connect point for the fiber backbone infrastructure — the equivalent of the copper patch panel for structured copper cabling, but for the fiber links that form the high-speed backbone between telecommunications rooms, data centre racks, and campus buildings. A well-specified fiber panel uses factory-fitted, pre-tested adapter sleeves with consistent insertion loss and return loss performance, and provides effective cable management to protect the delicate fiber connections from bend-radius violations that degrade transmission performance.

SSAL specifies and installs 24-port OM4 LC fiber patch panels as the standard fiber termination component in all enterprise structured cabling and data centre cabling projects — providing the 40GbE and 100GbE capability headroom that modern IP surveillance, cloud-connected enterprise networks, and data centre interconnects require.

Key Features

  • 24× LC Duplex Adapters (48 Fibers Total): LC duplex connectors are the standard for modern high-density fiber installations — their compact form factor (half the size of SC) enables 48 fiber connections in 1U rack space, compared to 24 fibers per 1U for SC duplex panels
  • OM4 50/125μm Multimode Fiber: OM4-grade multimode fiber is the current standard for enterprise backbone and data centre intra-building fiber — supports 10GbE at 550m, 40GbE at 150m, and 100GbE at 100m channel lengths; the aqua-coloured OM4 designation is internationally recognised for immediate visual identification
  • Factory-Loaded Snap-In Ceramic Sleeve Adapters: Adapters are factory-installed and factory-tested — eliminating field installation errors and providing consistent optical performance from the first insertion; snap-in design allows field replacement of individual adapters without tools if a sleeve is damaged
  • Insertion Loss ≤0.2dB per Mating Pair: Industry-leading insertion loss specification — low insertion loss means more optical power budget remains for the transmission channel, supporting longer reach and higher speed operation at the rated distances
  • Return Loss ≥35dB: High return loss specification limits reflected optical power at the connector mating face — important for laser sources (10GbE SFP+ and above) where back-reflection can cause laser instability and bit error rate degradation
  • 1U Rack Mount with Cable Management Ring: Compact 1U height maximises rack space efficiency in telecommunications rooms and data centre racks; integrated front cable management ring guides fiber patch cord bend radius away from the connector face without requiring additional cable management accessories
  • Loaded (Adapters Factory Installed): All 24 LC duplex adapters are factory installed and aligned — the panel is ready to receive pre-terminated fiber cables immediately upon rack installation
  • OM4 Aqua Colour Coding: Aqua body colour follows ISO/IEC 11801 colour coding for OM4 multimode — immediately distinguishes OM4 panels from OM3 (also aqua in some interpretations), OS2 single-mode (blue/yellow), and OM1/OM2 (beige/orange) panels in mixed-type installations
  • Compatible OS2 Single-Mode Version Available: The same panel form factor is available in a single-mode OS2 version (blue body, OS2 LC adapters) for campus backbone and inter-building fiber links that require single-mode performance
  • Labelling Strip Included: Write-on labelling strip at the front of the panel identifies each port connection — compatible with printed label systems for permanent, legible port documentation

Typical Applications

  • Telecommunications Room to Core Switch Backbone: Fiber patch panel terminates the OM4 multimode fiber risers from the floor telecommunications rooms to the main distribution frame — structured cross-connect enables flexible rerouting without disturbing the backbone cabling
  • Data Centre Rack-to-Rack Interconnect: Dense 48-fiber-in-1U enables efficient interconnection of server racks to top-of-rack switches and aggregation switches within the data centre hot-aisle/cold-aisle layout
  • Campus Building Backbone — Inter-Building Fiber: Entry point for campus multimode backbone cables entering the building telecommunications room; adapter sleeves receive the pre-terminated trunk cable connectors from the campus fiber duct system
  • Security Operations Centre — CCTV Video Wall Distribution: Fiber distribution from NVR rack to video wall decoder rack within the security operations centre — eliminates signal degradation over copper at the rack-to-rack distances in a large SOC
  • Hospital Server Room: Backbone fiber termination for the hospital's internal patient record, medical imaging, and nurse call infrastructure — OM4 headroom supports future 40GbE to storage arrays
  • Education Campus IT Room: Consolidation point for fiber backbone from teaching blocks; cross-connect flexibility enables rapid network reconfiguration for new teaching technology installations

Compatibility & Integration

OM4 LC patch panels accept LC-terminated OM4 multimode pre-terminated trunk cables, individual LC-LC patch cords, and LC-terminated pigtail splice assemblies. SSAL provides pre-terminated OM4 trunk cables in standard lengths for clean, rapid data centre and telecommunications room installations. For installations requiring field termination, SSAL uses factory-grade fusion splicing to pre-terminated pigtail assemblies, providing lower-loss and more reliable terminations than field mechanical connectors.

SSAL Supply & Support

Smart Safety & Automations Ltd. designs, supplies, installs, and tests fiber infrastructure as part of complete structured cabling projects. SSAL's fiber installation service includes patch panel rack mounting, pre-terminated trunk cable installation and dressing, fiber trace identification, optical loss testing (insertion loss at all wavelengths), and documentation in an optical test record. All fiber channels are tested using calibrated OTDR and optical loss test sets; test results are provided with pass/fail assessment against TIA-568-C.3 channel loss budgets. Annual Maintenance Contracts include optical performance re-testing and connector inspection.
